“Rice is great if you’re really hungry and want to eat two thousand of something.”
– Mitch Hedberg
A lot of guys use strenuous exercise as an excuse to eat whatever they want. I know several dudes who’ll immediately go eat pizza and ice cream after they leave the gym. They view lifting in the same manner that fat girls view diet soda.
Unsurprisingly, they never seem to progress physically.
While doing Super SquatsI had to eat big, but decided to try and do so as cleanly as possible.
Rather than eating cheeseburgers and milkshakes, I choose to dine on the following:
- A dozen eggs a day
My parent own an organic farm, allowing me to have a near limitless quantity of organic, free range eggs. Naturally, I took advantage of this and binged on over a dozen eggs every day. I’d eat four for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I’d also occasionally eat two or three as a late afternoon snack.
- A gallon of milk a day
After watching Kingpin when I was a child, I’ve always had a weird aversion to milk. However, the prospect of gaining muscle managed to help me overcome my distrust of dairy. After seeing my results, I actually kind of regret not drinking tons of milk earlier in my life.
- Oatmeal
I ate at least two huge bowls of oatmeal a day. Mixed with a little honey and butter, it tasted fantastic. In fact, my favorite part of this program was probably the fact that I got to eat so much oatmeal.
- Cottage cheese
After working out, I’d go buy a pint of cottage cheese, mix it with protein powder and pineapples, and devour the whole thing in one sitting. Next to milk, cottage cheese is one of the best protein sources around. Seriously, it’s better than Muscle Milk.
- Trail mix
Whenever I was away from home, I’d pack a ton of healthy trail mix to eat. While it was more expensive than fast food, it wasn’t going to give me diabetes. Rather than buying premade mixes, which are a rip-off, I’d throw a bunch of sunflower seeds in with some peanuts and almonds.
Combining these foods with my normal diet of assorted meats, juice, and brown rice; I was constantly full and eating clean.
