Challenge 22: Finish building this site, shoot professional
videos, and develop passive income
Generally I start the month by telling you about what I plan to do.
This month I’m going to switch things up. You’re going to get a quick little lesson in mindset instead.
In a couple days I’m going back to Iowa. Although I look forward to seeing my parents, and playing with my pet duck, I’m not too thrilled about anything else.
Iowa is a cold state and nothing really happens there. I spent most of my youth trying to escape it. Going back for the holidays was something I dreaded.
Ugly girls, dorky dudes, bad food, and worse weather.
But then I found a solution.
Since I’m going to be spending a few months in a place I don’t really like I can focus on meeting goals and getting work done. There are no distractions to sideline me.
When you have a bad situation, like being bored, leverage it into an advantage. If there’s “nothing to do” go buy 10 books and learn a new skill. You’ll be so busy that you won’t have time to mope around.
I’m going to finish building this site and give you a bunch of free stuff
A few months ago I decided to double my website’s readership. The goal was a huge success, but I never finished updating and modifying my blog.
There were several technical and educational barriers in the way. Plus I’d end up blowing off work to go to the beach and goof around.
Now I’ve got no excuse to avoid my responsibilities.
The first orders of business are setting up a mailing list, I wrote a free book that you guys will enjoy, and making the site easier to navigate. My parents actually have a massive email list for their business and I’m going to learn from them.
After that I have a few other goals:
Increase “passive income”
Aside from “raped by a dinosaur” and “hobo sex” most of my search traffic comes from something that I’ve only wrote about once or twice. This has made me very interested in the idea of making a new website to address this niche.
On top of possibly starting a new blog I have a few books and things that I would like to finish writing. People are always hitting me up with questions about making money online and I wouldn’t be opposed to monetizing this. There are a few tactics that I use which, to the best of my knowledge, can’t be found anywhere else. Plus, I’m pretty good at selling freelance projects.
Shoot better videos
At one time I briefly considered going to film school. I own professional editing software at my house and used to make all kinds of little movies.
When I get back to Iowa I’m planning on converting my bedroom into a film studio so that I can shoot professional, or at least non-shaky, looking YouTube videos.
YouTube is the fourth largest site in the world. And it is way easier to rank content on there than on Google. Also, you can get ad money from the site which ties back into my passive income goal.
Lastly, I think some topics are easier to discuss than write about. Hopefully my videos will allow me to better articulate certain concepts.
Grow my site
I want to continue making 30 Days To X bigger and better too.
That means more great content, new “how to” guides on the projects I’m working on, and plenty of other good stuff.
I’d like to get cool new material that introduces you to new concepts and ideas that you might never have seen otherwise. And I’ll be posting some exclusive stuff that isn’t being discussed anywhere else. And all that crazy stuff is going to kick off first thing tomorrow morning.
No seriously, I’m tossing up a step-by-step guide that made me $2,000 in one month last year. You’re going to like it.
Goal summary
- Generate more money without constantly having to write articles for other people
- Produce better video clips with quality lighting, framing, and editing
- Increase site traffic and find new readers
I think we’re in for a good month.
Until tomorrow,
