When it comes to making money, most people over complicate their business ideas.
A lot of guys want to earn their living as life coaches, or dating “gurus,” or travel experts, or masters some insanely difficult skill. These are all terrible business choices. Each of these takes years to build up, have tons of competition, and pay peanuts for the amount of effort that you put into them.
Most men would be better of starting a “simple” business. These take far less time and effort, yet they are incredibly lucrative. How To Write And Sell Simple Information For Fun And Profit, by Bob Bly, gives you the tools you need to make money off of topics you already know.
I read How To Write And Sell Simple Information in March of 2015 and it gave me a ton of new ideas for making eBooks, building niche sites, and monetizing my existing skills.
This book is especially valuable if you’re looking to start a new website, or just want to earn some extra cash.
What You Will Learn From How To Write And Sell Simple Information
Before reading How To Write And Sell Simple Information I was struggling to come up with my own products. Every idea that I had too complex to work right away.
I wanted to write a book on sales, but I realized I’d have to sell at least one million dollars worth of products before anyone would take my advice seriously.
I also wanted to visit five or six different countries and write a book on which ones were best for copywriters to live in. However, I realized that I would need to spend at least a year in each location. And the cost of staying in so many places would be way higher than anything I could earn from my book.
Unless you have a huge audience, as in millions of readers per month, you are not going to have the market for a lot of high-cost, labor intensive products or courses.
Instead, of sinking hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars into a risky venture, why not start off with something much easier?
How To Monetize The Things That Interest You
(If you have a hobby, like collecting board games, you can make lots of money)
If you have a hobby, you already have something that you can turn into a business. This could be anything from collecting comic books, to gardening, to building furniture. As long as you have something that you like to do, and are good at, you’ll be able to make money.
For example, I collect out-of-print board games. I have a huge collection and some of the games I’ve purchased are worth hundreds of dollars. If I wanted I could make a niche site about buying and selling rare board games.
There are numerous ways to monetize something like this:
- You could include affiliate links for eBay or Amazon
- You could write an eBook and sell it through your website
- You could record a video series about board games and sell it on Udemy
These are all simple business ideas for a niche with low competition. Additionally, you don’t have to spend years becoming some sort of expert or “guru.”
(You could easily write an eBook about finding board games at thrift shops and reselling them on eBay)
There are a lot of ways to make money without having to sink years into building up authority. In fact, all of the niche sites that I’ve created are little more than simple information. They all revolve around reviewing a specific product or discussing a single topic.
When you “show what you know” you end up earning more than the people who try to become all-knowing gurus.
How To Make Money Off Of eBooks
In 2015, I ended up designing and selling some T-shirts. While I wanted to write about my experience, I noticed that it would take a lot of effort to do so. If I wanted to cover everything that I had done, I’d need to write-up about 10,000 words.
Penning 10,000 words is a lot. For frame of reference, Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is only 29,966 words long. Rather than putting out a really long series of blog posts, I decided to publish what I’d learned as an eBook and donate the first month’s profits to Mayo Clinic.
(Using the information from this book I was able to raise $500 for cancer research)
Doing so helped raise $500 for the Mayo Clinic and, over the following months, I made a little over $1,300 in worldwide royalties. Additionally, I got a lot of emails from guys who bought the book and used it to make extra money on their own as well.
Closing Thoughts
(My book, How To Start A Big Money T-Shirt Business, was an Amazon Bestseller)
How To Write And Sell Simple Information is a fantastic book for anyone who wants to create their own products. The book is easy to read, full of useful ideas, and gives you actionable steps for monetizing what you know.
Even if you only use this book to create one product, it will more than pay for itself.
