“Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.”
– Mark Twain
Since I no longer have an actual job I’m forced to occupy my time with things that I actually enjoy doing. Reading, playing Dwarf Fortress, lifting, boxing, and writing are how I pass the time. It sucks, I know.
Yesterday night I stumbled on my new favorite activity, reading about conspiracy theories.
It started off innocently enough. I went to ironically look up something about the JFK assassination. At three in the morning I was still browsing through archives about all sorts of crazy stuff: Illuminati, Free Masons, Bohemian Grove, Coral Castle, and a slew of other far fetched stuff. It was fascinating.
While I enjoyed reading a ton of outlandish stuff, there were a few interesting articles I read that turned out to be true. Here are my three favorites:
This one really interested me since it almost happened within my lifetime.
In a nutshell, a girl using the mononym “Nayirah” testified in front of congress about Iraqi soldiers killing babies during their occupation of Kuwait. Her testimony ended up being a major factor in the United States involvement in the first Gulf War. In 1992 it was revealed that Nayirah was actually the daughter of Saud Nasser Al-Saud Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s ambassador to the United States. The testimony was a ruse put on by Hill & Knowlton, and no babies had actually been killed by Iraqi soldiers.
In 1962, the United States Government unanimously proposed state-sponsored terrorism against their own citizens. The plan was to blow up ships, bomb structures, hijack planes, and cause other violent acts under the guise of these atrocities being carried out by Cuban insurgents.
Another interesting conspiracy, Operation Snow White, was a massive government infiltration lead by none other than the Church of Scientology. The action purged unfavorable records about Scientology and its founder L. Ron Hubbard. Operation Snow White stole documents from 136 government agencies, foreign embassies and consulates, as well as private organizations. It was largest infiltration of the United States government in history
If you have a favorite conspiracy theory, feel free to post it bellow.
